OK, so I'm more or less computer illiterate, so I apologize for coming off ignorant and/or incompetent; I'm from the generation that pretty much only uses computers to find free 'adult' stuff. I'll try to make my question short and clear.

  • Connect the target disk to your computer and launch AOMEI Backupper. Next, click on Clone Disk Clone. Select the source disk and the destination disk. Click Start Clone. Helpful Tips: By default, AOMEI Backupper clones hard drives using intelligent mode. This means that it only clones the used blocks on the source drive.

I bought a new Samsung 850 EVO SSD to upgrade my Mac. I then also bought an external HD, because a buddy of mine said he just upgraded his Mac to an SSD by cloning to an external and then putting in the new SSD. Well, that buddy is at work all night and I'm halfway through the process and lost in the sauce.

SuperDuper 2.1 has all of the great features that made version 1.5.5 so good; it's easy to use for the most basic functions while offering a set of advanced features not found in other similar. Is one of my favorite tools for backing up and cloning my Macs and now it's been fully updated to support macmOS Catalina, too. Is an app that has seemingly been around forever and allows people to clone their Mac's disk. That has a few advantages, not least the fact that the cloned disk can be made bootable.

I plugged in the external HD, downloaded SuperDuper! and cloned the Macintosh HD to the external. This is where I don't know what to do. I mean, I know I will need to remove the cover, touch the metal frame to discharge static electricity... and then using a T6 bit, remove the current HD and then install the new SSD. But then what? When I hit the power button will it just pop up and ask if I want to use the connected HD? If it's important to know, I has a mid-2012 MBP running El Capitan 10.11.1

Thanks!

SuperDuper! tools make backups easy and straightforward. The software interface will show you drop-down menus control thanks to which you can choose what action perform. You'll be able to pick the kind of backup you need: Erase and copy, Copy different files and Copy new files. All data will be added to the backup disk, but not removed. If you don't want to fill up the drive, select Smart Update that keeps your boot image current updating the rest of your backup files at the same time.

It's also possible to create Sandbox backups that make testing updates quick and painless: simply put, the result is a bootable copy of your system – drivers, software and system updates included-, stored on another partition or hard drive, sharing your personal data with the original. You can easily use it as your startup volume, and you system will run again in minutes. The Sandbox is a resource-limited environment where you can work, test new apps, edit and share documents and OS updates without worry. You can pick from two types of sandbox backups that make restoring files from an external drive straightforward.

After the backup is complete, it's possible to make SuperDuper! perform actions: schedule, put to sleep the computer, eject the target drive, and more. Your backup files can be located with Finder, and you can restore them saving the backup to the original location or dragging them back.

Customer support is available via email. You can download the SuperDuper free version, but functionalities are limited to backup and drives clone. If you want to unlock Smart Update, scheduling, Sandboxes, scripting and other features you need to buy the paid version for $27.95.

Conclusion

SuperDuper! works very well with Time Machine, the Apple's backup solution. The software boasts standout features, and it's among the best Mac backup applications.
